Treasure Your Life

10 of the most impactful life lessons I've learned

This week marks a milestone that changed the course of my life forever – 9 years since I underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour. That day, I faced uncertainty, fear, and hope all at once, and yet, here I am 9 years later, writing to you with a heart full of gratitude and a mind heavy with lessons learned.

Since then, the road hasn't always been smooth. There were trials, triumphs, and moments I wasn't sure how I'd get through. But now, looking back, I see how much that moment shaped me – how it left behind a stronger version of myself, a resilient spirit, and a clearer sense of what really matters.

Today, I want to share 10 of the most impactful life lessons I've learned through this experience. These aren't just for those who've faced health battles like mine; they're truths I believe every one of us can carry forward, no matter where we are in life.

1. Don't Fight What You Can't Control

I spent too much energy worrying about things outside my grasp, leaving me exhausted. I've learned to focus on what is in my hands and to trust the rest will unfold as it's meant to.

2. Ask for Help – It's Brave, Not Weak

There's nothing wrong with leaning on others. Whether it's physical, mental, or emotional support, I've realised that vulnerability is how we invite love and strength into our lives.

3. Gratitude Changes Everything

Even on the most challenging days, there's something to be thankful for—a smile, a sunrise, or simply surviving another day. Gratitude is a powerful force that can shift your perspective and fill your heart with light, even when the skies are grey. It's a beacon of hope in the darkest of times.

4. Savour the Small Moments

Pause. Breathe. Notice the sound of laughter, the sun's warmth, how your favourite song feels, or how the leaves rustle in the breeze. These little things are what life is made of, and they're easy to miss if we're rushing.

5. Ultimate Self-Care Isn't Selfish

You can't pour from an empty cup. Rest, nourish your body, and honour your needs unapologetically. Taking care of yourself is not selfish; it's a necessity. It's the foundation for showing up for others and for living a fulfilling life.

6. "Happy When" is a Dangerous Trap

It's easy to think, "I'll be happy when I achieve ___" or "I'll enjoy life after ___." The truth is, tomorrow isn't promised. Find joy right here, right now, even in the middle of imperfection.

7. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

The person I was 9 years ago wouldn't recognise me today, and I'm proud of that. Healing, learning, and growing takes time, and every step forward—even the small ones—counts.

8. Kindness Ripples Outwards

The kindness I received during my most challenging times shaped me. Now, I dedicate myself to paying it forward whenever I can. A smile or a kind word can make the world brighter for someone else.

9. It's Okay to Rest

Rest isn't quitting. It doesn't mean you're weak or failing. It means you're human. Give yourself permission to slow down when you need to.

10. Never Stop Believing in Tomorrow

While living in the moment is vital, I've also learnt the importance of hope. Even in my darkest days, holding onto the idea of brighter tomorrows gave me the strength to keep moving forward. Hope is a powerful force that can light up even the darkest paths.

Nine years ago, I never could've predicted where I'd be today. But here I am—healthy, happy, hopeful, and grateful beyond measure.

Thank you for reading this weeks Blog and allowing me to share pieces of my journey with you.

If I can leave you with one final thought, it's this—don't wait for a reason to treasure your life. You already have oneπŸ’ You don't need a reason to cherish this moment – it's already enough.
