Rewrite Your Story: How to Break Free from Limiting Beliefs
Feb 11, 2026
Hello, and welcome to this weeks edition of Wellness Goals Weekly, your space for support, inspiration, and practical steps to help you feel your best, from The Wellness Studio.
Have you ever thought, “Why can’t I stick to a healthy routine, no matter how much I want to?” Or, “I’ve tried everything, but nothing works. I just can’t get my energy back.”
It can feel like you’re stuck living out the same story on repeat. You’re not alone, and the good news is your story isn’t fixed; it can be changed.
If you’ve ever wondered why some people bounce back easily, while most of us find ourselves caught in old doubts, habits, and patterns, this week's Blog is for you.
A lot of this comes down to the stories we pick up over time and start believing about ourselves, sometimes without noticing. In my 1:1 work, I help people who are tired of feeling stuck and want to write a new story for themselves. I get it, because I’ve been there too. Making changes can feel huge.
Your Mindset: A Garden to Grow
Picture your mindset as a garden. Some beliefs grow like flowers, helping you thrive. Others are like weeds, taking up space and energy. If you let them stay, they spread. The good news is you can remove those weeds and plant better seeds.
For years, I believed I wasn’t creative because of a comment a teacher made at school. That opinion stayed with me and held me back. When I questioned where that belief came from, everything started to shift. I saw it was just someone else’s view, not a fact. Once I allowed myself to try, make mistakes, and enjoy the process, I found joy and freedom in being creative. Changing that belief has made my life brighter.
If you’ve ever felt limited by your beliefs, remember your past explains where you are now, but it doesn’t decide your future. You can always create new possibilities because we are the thinkers of our thoughts. We can create new beliefs.
The science behind the stories we tell ourselves
The way you think and feel is shaped by the patterns your brain forms as you repeat certain thoughts and habits. This is called neuroplasticity. Your brain is always changing based on what you practice. If you often say, “I’ll never get this right,” your mind looks for proof that it’s true, which is known as confirmation bias. As a result, positive moments fade into the background, and old stories become stronger.
These patterns aren’t permanent. With practice, you can train your brain to notice small successes you might have missed before. Over time, new ways of thinking become natural, and real change happens.
A little exercise to make a difference: challenge a limiting belief
The exercise below isn’t about fixing everything with ‘positive thinking’. It’s about showing your brain real proof that change is possible. Each small step, like noticing an old story, asking where it started, and choosing a new belief, helps your mind create new pathways. Over time, these new ways of thinking become your default.
Ready to give it a try? Here’s a simple way to start shifting an old belief right now:
-
Write down one belief that’s getting in the way of your wellbeing (for example, “I can’t stick to a healthy routine”).
-
Ask: Where did this come from? Look for memories, comments, or experiences that might have planted this seed.
-
Find one piece of evidence that challenges that belief. Maybe there was a time you kept a healthy habit for a few days or even just once. The win can be small; what matters is that you notice it.
-
Reframe that belief to make it more supportive and realistic. For example: “I’m learning to take care of my health, one small choice at a time.” Write it down, put it somewhere you’ll see it, and say it to yourself every day.
What Could Change for You?
Imagine waking up lighter, confident in the small steps you’re making. Think about grabbing new opportunities or meeting challenges with more curiosity and less anxiety. When you let go of old limiting beliefs, you make room for new choices, decisions, results, and a life that feels truly yours.
Every small shift is a seed planted to grow into something bigger.
