Five Little Things to Brighten Your Day

Welcome to this week’s Wellness Goals Weekly, your space for support, inspiration, and practical steps to help you feel your best.

This week, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is for life’s simple joys to slip away unnoticed, especially when things get busy or uncertain. Recently, I’ve needed these small reminders more than ever. A little pause, even on a frantic day, can make all the difference.

So, instead of focusing on chores or ticking off yet another to-do list, here’s a ‘to-remember’ list, packed with small, joyful acts that can change the shape of your day. Why not pick one or two to try this week?

1. Remember Your Favourite Song

We all have that song. The one that lifts our mood, no matter what. The other day, after a long, draining day, I found myself singing along in the kitchen, and it actually made me smile.

Try this: Make a playlist of your top five “mood fixers” and keep it handy. Next time you feel flat, hit play and see what happens. Here’s a link to the Spotify playlist I created that always lifts my mood.

Music is a natural stress reliever and a quick way to reset your mood. Even a few minutes can work wonders.

2. Remember the Last Time You Had a Proper Laugh

Not just a little chuckle, but a full-on belly laugh that leaves you beaming. I recently swapped silly voice notes with a friend, and our laughter did more for me than any self-care tip ever could.

Try this: Call or message someone who makes you laugh, or line up your favourite comedy clip for later this week.

Because: Laughter relaxes the body and mind. It’s free and often just what we need to shake off a long day.

3. Remember a Compliment You’ve Been Given

Most of us quickly brush aside praise, but it’s worth hanging onto kind words.

Try this: Write down a recent compliment—or one that’s stuck with you for a while—and pop it somewhere you’ll spot it during the day, like your fridge, bathroom mirror or phone wallpaper.

Because: Positive reminders help boost self-worth and offer a little lift when you need it most.

4. Remember the Fresh Air

It’s all too easy to get stuck indoors, especially with the classic British seasonal weather. But stepping outside, even just to the garden or your doorstep, for five minutes can really shift your perspective.

Try this: Take five minutes outdoors—no phone, just you. Notice what you can see, hear, or smell. Let it ground you, even briefly.

Because: Time spent in nature calms the mind and gently recharges us—no special gear required.

5. Remember How to Do Nothing

Being still is surprisingly difficult these days. Taking a few moments to just sit, tea in hand, and watch the world go by isn’t lazy, it’s nourishing.

Try this: Allow yourself a short window to do absolutely nothing—no phone, no TV, no planning. Just sit comfortably and let your mind wander.

Because: A simple pause can refresh your mind, restore energy, and make space for new ideas.

Your challenge for the week: Write your own ‘to-remember’ list, or use these as a starting point. Pop it somewhere visible, or save it as your screensaver, and choose one to bring into each day. These moments, though small, are powerful ways to reconnect with yourself and what matters.

If you feel time is too tight for these little joys, think of them as essentials, not extras. They’re the glue that holds everything else together.
