Start Your 2026 Strong: Be the Example You Need
Hello, and welcome to this year’s first Wellness Goals Weekly Blog, your space for support, inspiration, and practical steps to help you feel your best.
The decorations are back in the loft, the fridge is finally clear of festive nibbles, and January is already halfway through. If your 2026 motivation feels a little bit wobbly, you’re in good company. The start of a year is full of expectation, but sustaining that over the next weeks and months? That’s where things get real.
When Showing Up for Yourself Feels Hard
We’re often brilliant at being there for others, checking in on friends, offering advice, being the organiser or the shoulder to cry on, but turning that same energy towards our own wellness? That’s a different challenge.
Last January, I found myself doing just that: cheering on everyone else’s plans, but letting my own goals slip to the bottom of the pile. It wasn’t until a friend asked how I really wanted to feel this year that I realised I’d been on ‘new-year-autopilot’, busy, supporting others, but not truly present for myself.
A slight shift made all the difference in how the rest of my 2025 went, and today I wanted to share it with you.
Set Your Compass with a Feeling
So, before you write another to-do list, ask yourself:
What do I want to FEEL in 2026?
Not a number or achievement, but a feeling; energised, calm, joyful, resilient, connected, strong, present? That feeling is your compass for the year ahead, not just another thing to tick off.
Pause for a Moment: Visualise It
Take a couple of minutes to close your eyes and picture what day-to-day life could look like if that feeling guided your choices. Maybe you see yourself claiming ten quiet minutes with your coffee, setting healthy boundaries at work, pausing for breath before answering a demanding email, or signing up for that new class or hobby you keep putting off.
What stands out? Which moments feel most real, or most needed?
Mid-January Is Not Too Late
If your resolutions have slipped (or haven’t been set), you haven’t “failed”. In fact, now is the perfect time to check in. The festive dust has settled, life is back to its usual rhythm and routine, and you get to choose what comes next. No hype, just a chance to do things your way.
Try This: A Single, Practical Step
Don’t overcomplicate. Write your chosen feeling at the top of a page, then jot down the one thing you can do this week to invite it in. Just one. For example:

If you want to feel “connected,” message a friend to meet for a walk.

If you want to feel “calm,” set aside five minutes each morning for quiet or gentle stretching.

If your word is “energised,” commit to finishing work half an hour early one day, or making time for fresh air or that fitness class.
Not sure which action to take? Try playing the “warmer/colder” game with yourself. As you mentally picture a possible next step, notice whether you feel a sense of “warmer” (drawn, lighter, a little more energised) or “colder” (heavier, resisted, flat). This simple inner check-in taps into your intuition and helps you move closer to what genuinely supports you, making it easier to pick something that feels right.
Keep it small and doable, because our aim here is progress, not perfection!

These two questions are designed to help you connect the dots between your chosen feeling and the actions you take. By reflecting on the example you set, you can align your daily choices with the person you aspire to be, both for yourself and as an inspiration to others.
There’s no pressure for a dramatic transformation, just a gentle nudge to choose one next step and see how it feels.
